Install Gist on Chrome
If install did not go smoothly — missing icon, sign-in popup blocked, overlay will not open — start here.
The happy-path install is two minutes of reading in Docs: Install Gist on Chrome. This page is the "when something went wrong on the way in" companion.
"I installed it but I cannot find the icon"
Chrome hides new extensions behind the puzzle-icon menu by default. Pin it:
- Click Chrome's puzzle icon (top-right toolbar).
- Find Gist in the list.
- Click the pin next to it.
The Gist icon now lives directly on your toolbar, visible on every page. Pin before you try anything else.
"The sign-in popup keeps closing instantly"
Chrome or a content blocker is silently blocking the popup. See Sign-in problems for the fix.
"I clicked the icon but nothing happened"
Three causes: wrong icon, unsupported page, wedged extension. See No overlay appears for the triage path.
"The install itself failed"
Rare, but it happens.
- Remove any old copy of Gist at
chrome://extensions. - Reload the Chrome Web Store listing.
- Click Add to Chrome again.
- If Chrome refuses the install, update Chrome itself (
chrome://settings/help) and retry.
If that still fails, contact support with your Chrome version (chrome://version) and the exact error.
