Gist

Update or reinstall Gist

Chrome auto-updates extensions. Force the update from chrome://extensions when Gist feels stuck. Reinstall clears local state; your account is untouched.

Chrome auto-updates extensions in the background. You rarely have to do anything.

Force an update when Gist feels stuck, a bug you know was fixed still reproduces, or a new computer might be running an old version.

Force an update

  1. Open chrome://extensions.
  2. Toggle Developer mode on (top-right).
  3. Click Update at the top of the page.

Chrome checks the Web Store and applies newer versions immediately.

Reinstall

Reinstall when an update alone does not fix things.

  1. Open chrome://extensions.
  2. Find Gist and click Remove.
  3. Confirm.
  4. Open the Gist listing in the Chrome Web Store.
  5. Click Add to Chrome.
  6. Re-pin the toolbar icon — see Install Gist on Chrome.

Reinstall removes your local state. Your account, shared Gists, and reading history on our servers are untouched.

Reset just the extension state

If the extension is stuck in a specific wrong state — a sign-in loop, an overlay that will not close — try reloading it before uninstalling.

  1. Open chrome://extensions.
  2. Toggle Gist off, wait a second, toggle it back on.

Still broken? Reinstall per the steps above.
