Privacy Policy for Beta version of Gist
Last Updated: October 23, 2025
TL;DR: This is a beta product. We collect everything you scrape, we look at it to improve the product, we might use it to train AI models, and we keep it until we decide otherwise. If you're not cool with that, wait for the full release.
Who We Are
Mireles & Co, LLC, dba Transcendence, Inc. ("we," "us," "our") operates the Beta version of Gist, a browser extension that helps you read faster by summarizing web content.

The Beta Deal
This is the beta version of our software. By using the Beta version of Gist, you're helping us build something awesome. In exchange for early access, you're giving us broad rights to use your data to improve the product. This includes:
- Manually reviewing your scraped content for quality assurance
- Using your content to train or fine-tune AI models
- Analyzing usage patterns to improve features
- Sharing anonymized data with AI providers and analytics services
We'll update this policy when we exit the beta period to give you more control. For now, we need flexibility to build the best product possible.

How We Use Your Data
During the Beta Period (Current Phase)
We use your data for basically everything related to improving Gist:
- Product Development: We manually review scraped content and summaries to improve quality
- AI Training: We may use your content to train, fine-tune, or evaluate AI models
- Analytics: We analyze usage patterns to understand what works and what doesn't
- Bug Fixing: We review specific user sessions to fix issues
- Feature Testing: We use real user data to test new features
Third-Party Services
We share your data with:
- Firebase/Google Cloud: Authentication and database storage
- Gemini AI: To generate summaries (they may retain data per their policies)
- Cloudflare: CDN and edge computing (Workers, R2 storage)
- Amplitude (or similar): Analytics and usage tracking
- Stripe: Payment processing (when applicable)
- Sentry: Error tracking
- Postmark: Transactional emails
Your Rights (Limited During Beta)
What You Can Do
- Stop using the extension (obviously)
- Email us at privacy@gist.is with questions
- Request a copy of your data (we'll try to accommodate within 30 days)
What You Can't Do (Yet)
- Delete your data (we need it for beta testing)
- Opt out of data collection while still using the service
- Restrict how we process your data
- Port your data to another service
These limitations are temporary. When we exit the beta period, you'll have standard data rights including deletion and portability.
Data Retention
During the beta period: We keep everything indefinitely. We need historical data to:
- Track improvements over time
- Train better models
- Debug edge cases
- Understand long-term usage patterns
Post-beta period, we'll implement reasonable retention periods and give you deletion options.
Security
We implement reasonable security measures including:
- Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS everywhere)
- Encrypted storage (Firestore, R2)
- Authentication required for all data access
- Regular security updates
But let's be real: we're a small beta product. We're not Fort Knox. If data security is critical to you, maybe wait for our full release.
Age Restrictions
You must be at least 16 years old to use the Beta version of Gist. If you're under 16, sorry, come back later.
Why 16? It's a good balance between accessibility and not dealing with children's privacy laws.
International Users
We're based in California but accept users globally. By using Gist:
- Your data will be processed in the United States
- You consent to transfer of data from your country to the US
- You might have additional rights under GDPR/CCPA (see below)
GDPR (European Users)
You have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. During the beta period, we're relying on your consent for processing. You can withdraw consent by stopping use of the extension.
CCPA (California Users)
We won't sell your personal information. During the beta period, we're not honoring "Do Not Sell" requests because we need the data for product development. This will change post-beta.
Cookies and Tracking
The extension itself doesn't use cookies, but:
- Our website (gist.is) uses cookies for authentication
- We use local storage in your browser for caching
- Analytics services may use tracking pixels
Children's Privacy
We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If we learn we have, we'll delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We'll update this policy as we exit the beta period. We'll notify you via:
- Email (if we have it)
- In-app notification
- Update notice in the extension
During the beta period, we may make changes without notice (another beta perk!).
Data Breaches
If there's a breach that affects you, we'll notify you within 72 hours of discovery via email and in-app notification.
Open Source and Contributions
If you contribute code or feedback, you grant us unlimited rights to use it. No takesie-backsies.
AI-Specific Disclosures
Your scraped content may be:
- Used to train custom AI models
- Included in prompts to third-party AI services
- Analyzed by AI for patterns and insights
- Retained in AI training datasets indefinitely
We can't control what AI providers do with data once they receive it. Each provider has their own data policies.
The Bottom Line
This is the beta version of our software. We're being transparent: we collect a lot, we look at it, we use it to build better features, and we keep it. Your privacy isn't our top priority right now—building an awesome product is.
When we exit the beta period, we'll give you proper privacy controls. Until then, if you're uncomfortable with these terms, please don't use the Beta version of Gist.
